When individuals operate without any sense of right and wrong, problems will ensue. People will operate based upon whatever they feel is right instead what actually is right.

Even though many employers have policies banning poor business and unethical behavior it still can and often does still seep into the workplace. Lying, stealing, taking bribes, falsifying information, and harassment are just a few of the actions that should never be engaged in at work.

Unethical behavior at work can be extremely hazardous to your career goals and to your job security. Engaging in poor workplace behaviors can also cause others to lose respect for you. It can also cause you to lose your job and depending on the serious of your actions also cause you to lose your freedom as well.

But if you’re serious about building a happy and successful career you need to conduct yourself with the upmost integrity even when others around do not.

What is the biggest obstacle that Black people face in the workplace?

The first thing you need to do is review your employers business code of conduct or workplace behaviors manual so that you have a clear idea of what is and is not acceptable behavior at work.

Second never allow any situation or any person at work cause you to compromise your personal integrity or violate your employer’s ethics guidelines.

If you have questions or concerns or are dealing with a difficult situation, you should speak to your direct supervisor, HR partner, or an attorney. Remember nothing is worth damaging your name, your reputation, or your career chances.

In case you haven’t noticed, there seems to be something lacking in our society today and that is ethics and integrity. You cannot turn on the television without hearing of some company, politician, celebrity, etc. being tied to one form of corruption or another.
