This means your clothes should clean, pressed, and neat. Your grooming should be neat and professional. Avoid anything that will distract your interviewer from focusing on your qualifications for the job such as wild hair do’s, excessive perfumes, sexually suggestive clothing, gaudy jewelry, etc. Just keep your style simple, comfortable, and professional.
Focus and Engage
You should be alert, focused, and engaged during your interview. This means sitting up straight, being enthusiastic, and taking care to make eye contact with your interviewer(s). You also need to actively listen to not only what is being asked but also how it’s being asked. Take time to think before opening your mouth. Keep your answers detailed but don’t be long-winded, get to the point as quick as possible. Remember an interview is a dialogue between you and the interviewer so ask questions and show that you can communicate clearly and confidently.
End Strong
The end of your interview is your last opportunity to engage and show that you have what it takes, so make sure that you end strong if not stronger than how you started. You can accomplish this by making sure that you covered everything that you planned to cover. If you feel that you have fallen short someplace during the interview ask your interviewer the following… “If there’s any other clarification needed on any of the examples or information you provided?” Next make sure that you get the names of everyone you spoke to. Smile and give each person a strong handshake and sincerely thank them for their time.
Follow Up
After your interview is over, take the time follow up by sending a “thank you” card or email to everyone involved. Here is a sample… “Thank you for taking the time to speak with me on Friday November 3rd I learned a lot about your organization, and strongly feel that I have the right attitude and the right mix of skills and talent your looking for. I welcome the opportunity to a member of your team! If you require any additional information to help you in your hiring decision please don’t hesitate to contact me!”
